MetroLink - Shared-Use Trail & Ferryboat Terminal Improvements
Moline, IL
Client: MetroLink
Designer: McClure Engineering Associate / Ashton Engineering
Contract Amount: $1,400,000
Delivery Method: Design-Build/General Contracting
Summary:
For this project, we were tasked with designing and constructing a three-bay dock for MetroLINK’s Channel Cat ferryboats, installing a pedestrian bridge, and performing associated site work along the Illinois side of the Mississippi Riverfront. The dock structure was delivered through a design-build approach and includes:
- Mooring Piles: Ten drilled and cast steel piles.
- Boat Dock: A 4,000 square foot dock with three bays and perimeter railing.
- Gangway: A 50-foot gangway extending to the concrete landing on the shore.
- Debris Screen: A 130-foot screen to capture floating debris from river flow.
Additional features included:
- Information Sign: A real-time information sign structure at the landing, providing updated ferryboat departure times.
- Pedestrian Bridge: Installation of a 130-foot pedestrian bridge that rerouted the existing bike path away from adjacent parking lots.
Site work involved curb and gutter installation, placement of hundreds of tons of rip rap stone along the riverbanks, guardrails, handrails, concrete pads, site lighting, and an asphalt bike path. The project was completed in just under three months and opened in July 2016.
