16th Avenue Roller Gate and Floodwall
Cedar Rapids, IA
Client: City of Cedar Rapids
Designer: Hanson Engineering
Contract Amount: $5,400,000
Delivery Method: General Contracting
Summary:
This project involved constructing a 1,000-foot concrete flood protection wall designed to prevent flooding and enhance safety. We also installed a structural steel hydraulic roller gate to ensure effective water management and accessibility. Our work included upgrading safety and durability by removing and replacing outdated sidewalks and pavement. To fortify the floodwall, we installed 7,500 linear feet of H-pile and 15,000 square feet of sheet pile, ensuring a robust structure capable of withstanding environmental stresses.
In addition, we installed sign trusses along the road to prominently display the names of the local districts of Czech Village and New Bohemia on each side of the river. The project also featured the development of a 14,000-square-foot terraced amphitheater, providing a versatile venue for local music, festivals, and performing arts.
